The focus of the DESSIM project is the development of a key component of a decision support system for the management of Israel’s EEZ ecosystem. This includes a series of ecosystem models built on the Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE) approach and is comprised of a mass-balance model (Ecopath), a time varying model (Ecosim) and a time-spatially varying model (Ecospace). The models will allow examination of possible management policies that coordinate the exploration and conservation of marine resources considering and reconciling different trade-offs. The models will provide governmental agencies and stakeholders the ability to diagnose the impact of potential intervention in the ecosystem in terms of management alternatives, and identify the large multi-scale impacts of change.
